From your words to the chat

This page covers every step, from typing your line to seeing the sticker in a conversation. It also explains what stays on your device, how the free stickers work, and what paying for a full pack on Robinhood Chain will involve.

  • Stickers are drawn inside your browser. Your photos and the words you type are not sent to Quipvale.
  • Each browser gets three free stickers, marked with a small Quipvale logo.
  • Telegram accepts the files straight away. WhatsApp needs one extra step, described below.
  • Full packs without the mark are not on sale yet.

Making a sticker

  1. Open Make and tap one of the eight faces.
  2. Type up to 40 characters. Short lines come out bigger and easier to read on a phone.
  3. Choose whether the words sit at the top or the bottom, and pick light, dark or coral lettering.
  4. Press Download WebP. If your phone struggles with WebP files, use Download PNG instead.

Every file is a square of 512 by 512 pixels with a transparent background, which is the size both chat apps expect for stickers.

Using your own photo

  1. Tap the Photo tile at the start of the face list and pick a picture from your phone or computer.
  2. Choose a circle, a rounded square, or Cut out. Cut out removes the background and traces a white border around the person, pet or object.
  3. Drag the picture inside the preview and use the zoom slider until the face or object sits in the middle.
  4. Add your words and download, the same way as with the faces.

The photo is read by your browser and never leaves your device. Quipvale does not store it, see it or keep a copy. Photos of other people should only be used with their permission, and pictures you did not take may belong to someone else.

How Cut out works

The first time you press Cut out, your browser downloads a small image model, about 5 MB, together with the program that runs it. After that it stays in the browser cache. The model looks for the main subject of the photo and hides everything else, all on your own device. It works best when one person, animal or object stands out clearly from the background. Busy scenes, or subjects that share their color with the background, can leave bits behind or cut off edges. If that happens, try a different photo or use the circle shape.

Decorating with expressions

Below the faces and photo options sits the Decorate area. It has two tools, and both work on faces as well as on your own photos.

Add expressions

  1. Tap any item in the row of expressions, such as a heart, tears, a sweat drop, shades, a crown, fire, a rocket or a moon.
  2. It appears in the middle of the sticker. Tap it in the preview to select it and drag it where you want.
  3. Use the size and rotate sliders to fit it, or remove it. You can stack as many as you like.

Magic mood

Pick a mood such as LOL, In love, Shook, Cool, Crying, Angry, Crypto or Sleepy. Quipvale looks for faces in your photo, finds the eyes, cheeks and forehead, and places matching expressions on them. Shades land on the eyes and hearts replace them, for example. It can handle up to three faces in one photo. A few lines that fit the mood appear underneath, and one of them fills the text box if it is still empty.

The face finder is a small model from Google called MediaPipe Face Landmarker. It downloads the first time you use Magic mood, about 15 MB in total including the program that runs it, and then works on your device. Your photo is not sent anywhere. The expressions are placed for the photo's current position, so run the mood again after you move or zoom the picture. Faces that are turned away, very small or covered may not be found, and in that case the expressions go in the middle for you to drag.

Adding it to WhatsApp

WhatsApp Web and the desktop app

  1. Open a chat and click the emoji button, then the sticker tab.
  2. Click Create and select the file you downloaded.
  3. Send it. The sticker is then saved in your recent stickers on every device linked to your account.

iPhone

  1. Save the PNG to your Photos.
  2. In a chat, open the sticker tray and tap Create sticker.
  3. Pick the image, leave the background as it is, and send.

Android

Most people use a free sticker maker app that imports image files into WhatsApp. Those apps follow WhatsApp's own rule that a pack holds at least three stickers, which is exactly how many you can make for free. Pick any well reviewed app from the Play Store and import the three files as one pack. Quipvale has no connection to those apps.

Adding it to Telegram

  1. Open a chat with the official bot @Stickers and send /newpack.
  2. Give the pack a name.
  3. Send the sticker as a file, so Telegram does not compress it.
  4. Reply with one emoji that fits the sticker. Repeat steps three and four for the rest.
  5. Send /publish, skip the icon if you like, and choose a short name for the link.

The bot then replies with a link that anyone can open to add the whole pack.

How the free stickers work

The count of free downloads is stored in your browser only. Quipvale keeps no account and no record of what you made. Clearing the browser data resets the count, and we are fine with that, because the mark in the corner stays on every free file.

Full packs on Robinhood Chain

Payments are not open. When they are, a full pack of up to 30 stickers without the mark will be paid in ETH on Robinhood Chain. This is how it will work.

  1. You build the pack on the Make page and see the price in ETH before paying.
  2. You connect a wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby that holds ETH on Robinhood Chain.
  3. Your wallet shows the exact amount and the receiving address. You also pay a small network fee called gas, which goes to the network and not to Quipvale.
  4. After the transaction confirms, the files for WhatsApp and Telegram unlock for that wallet and can be downloaded again later.

The receiving address will be published on this page and on the official Quipvale account. A payment sent anywhere else cannot be recovered. Blockchain payments are final, so once a pack has been downloaded there is no refund.

What you can write

Almost anything that makes your friends laugh. A few things are not allowed: insults aimed at a real person, hate speech, private details about someone such as a phone number or address, text that pretends to come from a company or public figure, nudity, and photos of people who have not agreed to it. Because the faces are Quipvale originals, you are free to share your stickers publicly.
